Hosting Wordpress Website on Godaddy

Hosting WordPress Website on GoDaddy: Step by Step Guide

In this tutorial, I explain how to install WordPress on a GoDaddy hosting account.

The tutorial consists of the following three sections:

  1. Hosting Settings (Installing WordPress)
  2. DNS Settings
  3. WordPress Site Basic Settings

Section 1: Hosting Settings (Installing WordPress)

Step 1: Login to your GoDaddy account, then go to My Hosting.

Step 2: Enter your domain name, then click Next.

Step 3: Choose a data center (Choose the closest one to your customers/ site visitors), then click Next.

Choose-Data-Center-Location

Step 4: Create a WordPress admin username and password, then click Finish. (Don’t set the username to “admin” as its easily guessed by hackers)

Step 5: Skip setting office 365 email account.

Wait for the onboarding process to complete.

Step 6: Click No, thanks.

Section 2: DNS Settings

Step 1: On your Godaddy account dashboard; Under My Hosting settings, click Manage.

Step 2: Copy the IP address of the webserver.

Step 3: Go to your DNS settings (Mine is AWS Route 53).

Step 4: Under DNS Management click Hosted Zones.

Step 5: Click on your domain name.

Step 6: Create Record Sets; we will create two records (naked domain + www)

First Record Set:

  • Name: Leave it empty
  • Type: A – IPv4 address
  • Value: Webserver IP address

Second Record Set:

  • Name: www
  • Type: A – IPv4 address
  • Value: Webserver IP address

Step 7: Visit your websites using the records you have just created (in my case business-nuggets.com & www.business-nuggets.com)

Section 3: WordPress Site Basic Settings

Step 1: Login to your WordPress dashboard (example.com/wp-login.php) using the administrator account.

Step 2: Close the WordPress wizard by clicking No, thanks.

You will be redirected to the dashboard.

Step 3: Go to settings and set the Site Title, Tagline, and Email Address.

Congratulations! Your WordPress website is up and running. In the next tutorial, I will explain how to install a free SSL certificate (Let’s Encrypt) for your website on GoDaddy hosting and how to redirect http requests to https.
